Lesson 2: Shapes
Lesson Objectives:
Students will observe the procedures of NoRILLA.
Students will complete the Play mode.
Students will take turns with peers.
Students will communicate with peers and adults.
Students will learn how shapes affect speed.
Materials Needed:

NoRILLA objects (different-sized wheels and spheres)

Lesson 3: Friction
Lesson Objectives:
Students will observe the procedures of NoRILLA.
Students will complete the Compete mode.
Students will take turns with peers.
Students will communicate with peers and adults.
Students will learn how friction affects speed.
Materials Needed:

pre built objects/cars
drawing paper
crayons, markers, etc.
Building materials such as Legos, paper plates, cardboard, cereal boxes, origami paper, toilet paper rolls, tape etc.
Lesson 4: No Weight vs. Weight on the Car
30-45 minutes
Lesson Objectives:
Students will observe the procedures of NoRILLA.
Students will complete the Play Mode and Compete Mode.
Students will take turns with peers.
Students will communicate with peers and adults.
Students will learn how weight affects speed.

Lesson 5: Potential Energy (weight in back vs. weight in front)

Lesson Objectives:
Students will observe the procedures of NoRILLA.
Students will complete the Play Mode and Compete Mode.
Students will take turns with peers.Students will communicate with peers and adults.
Students will understand how weight placement affects speed.
Students will learn how potential energy affects speed

Lesson 6: Student Centered Play Mode
40 minute
Lesson Objectives:
Students will review the procedures of NoRILLA.
Students will rotate through COMPETE mode in SmartRamps.
Students will test their own cars and test them the ramps.
Students will think interdependently (flexible) by working together to complete a task.
Students will manage their impulsivity.
Students will use precise and clear communication skills.
Materials Needed:

Building materials such as Lego cars (provided), K’nex, Vex IQ cars
CDs for wheels
Cereal boxes
Pringles cans
Design, Predict and Build Cars worksheet

Lesson 7: Test My Car
40 minutes
Lesson Objectives:
Students will observe the procedures of NoRILLA.
Students will complete the Compete Mode.
Students will take turns with peers.
Students will communicate with peers and adults.
Students will learn about how potential energy and weight placement impacts speed.
Materials Needed:

Weighted objects (weighted magnets, weighted legos, Lego mini-figures, weighted blocks)
Lesson 8: Build Your Own Ramp
40 minutes
Lesson Objectives:
Students will communicate with peers and adults.
Students will use teamwork skills to build a ramp.

Foam board
Cardboard
Cereal boxes
Connecting/Construction Blocks
Paper plates
Toilet paper rolls

Lesson 10: Ball Shapes
40 Minutes
Lesson Objectives:
Students will interact with the Compete mode. Students will take turns with peers.
Students will communicate with peers and adults.
Students will use the scientific method; predict, observe and explain.
Students will try different ways to solve a problem.
Students will test different shaped and textured balls to see which ones will roll down the ramp faster.
Materials Needed:

Balls of different shapes, sizes.
